If you’re a real estate manager and you’ve purchased foreclosed properties either in a short sale or otherwise, you may be interested in renovating the existing structure either to resell it or to increase its value. If you do that, however, the building will remain vacant longer, and will need security measures like door guards and window guards to maintain its safety.

Purchasing

When you purchase a foreclosed property, if you don’t intend on having people start living or working there soon, it’s important to use a vacant property window screen on the windows and to also install door guards to keep out people who might try to vandalize or steal from the building. If you’re in the process of purchasing multiple properties, this is especially important, as you may become busy with one and forget about another. Unattended properties can become easy targets, as criminals know they aren’t watched over. Crimes like vandalism, theft, and illegal inhabitation (squatting) are common in vacant properties, but you definitely have options to protect what you’ve purchased.

Renovating

Renovating foreclosed properties is also common. When people, organizations, or companies purchase foreclosed buildings, it’s not unusual for those buildings to need significant maintenance and repair work. Renovations may take a while, so often these properties stay uninhabited while they’re worked on. If there aren’t door guards and window guards on the building, there may be a higher likelihood of a break-in or vandalism. If a property is easy to get into and at the same time unattended, vandals or criminals may see it as a target. This is problematic for the owner or owners of the building, because it can necessitate more repairs and work. In addition to protecting the doors, installing a vacant property window screen over each window will help keep unwanted visitors out of your buildings.
